Easiest Way to Shuck Corn

I’ve got a new trick for you today. I’m an Iowa girl and with that comes certain responsibilities. For instance, loving corn on the cob. I’ve grown up enjoying this sweet vegetable every summer. With summer drawing to a close, it’s time to take advantage of the harvest while we still can. I am going to show you the EASIEST way to shuck and cook corn.

*A special shout out to my friend Laura who taught me this neat trick.

You’d be surprised, but the easiest way to shuck corn is to use the microwave. The microwave creates just enough steam to allow the kernels to separate from both the husk and the silk. It’s crazy just how easy this is. Here’s what you’ll do:

  1. Soak corn in sink filled with water for 10 minutes.

  2. Cut off the stalk of each ear about one inch above the last row of kernels.

  3. Microwave for two to four minutes.

  4. Holding the uncut end, shake and squeeze the husk until the corn slides out.

  5. Butter and season corn to your liking. Dig in!

How do you eat your corn? We had a big discussion and my favorite way to eat corn is in rows and I haven’t to finish an entire row before I put it down. My husband takes bites all over. What about you?
