The Happiest Place on Earth

Last week I surprised Tim with a trip to Orlando, FL for our 10 year anniversary. We had the most amazing time. We went with our friends, Tracey and Tommy to meet our sorority sister Tiffany who lives in Orlando and works for Disney.

We went at the best time – 90 degrees in Florida and 30 degrees and raining in Indiana. Iowa even had SNOW this weekend – crazy times. It’s April – it should be warmer then that. Good thing we were traveling.

Here’s what we did:

Thursday: We surprised our significant others and headed to the airport for a late flight. Tim and I waited 2 hours for Tommy to notice us at the airport – don’t worry, he finally saw us. We got in at 1 a.m. to Orlando and headed to BED to rest up for a fun weekend.

Friday: We woke up early, packed some lunches and headed to EPCOT where we rode Fast Track (my first time riding – it was awesome!) and a new ride, Soarin’, a serene, multisensory attraction that simulates a peaceful hang-gliding flight over California. (Thank you Dave for getting us into the parks!).

Epcot was also celebrating the International Flower and Garden Festival. Everywhere you looked we saw flower attractions in the shapes of disney movie characters.

After enjoying a few rides at Epcot we headed to Magic Kingdom and enjoyed all of our favorite attractions: Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion and the Mad Tea Cups (my favorite). You should have seen us – 4 adults crammed into a tea cup – it was hilarious!

We ended our trip to Magic Kingdom with a lovely cup of ice cream…

We met up with Tiffany and Dave and went to Tiffany’s favorite bar in Celebration (it’s like Pleasantville on crack) – and then headed to the Polynesian for dinner and Disney fireworks. It’s an all you can eat dinner where they serve you meat on a stick. It was delicious, but it definitely put us in a food coma!

Saturday: We woke up early and headed to Animal Kingdom. There, we enjoyed Expedition Everest (awesome roller coaster!), Kilimanjaro Safari and the Festival of the Lion King, a big-as-Broadway musical-stage show based on The Lion King movie.

After we were done with Animal Kingdom, we headed over to Hollywood Studios (my favorite). We enjoyed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (we still couldn’t convince Dave to ride it).

We headed back to Epcot where we strolled around the world. We stopped at Mexico and enjoyed dinner at La Hacienda De San Angel. It was delicious! We ended the night with Epcot fireworks – what a show!

All in all – another fabulous day!

Sunday: We took time to sleep in and headed to Celebration for a fun brunch and farmer’s market. After filling our hungry bellies we spent all day at the pool, sitting out and enjoying the sun until we had to head to the airport.

What a wonderful, wonderful weekend! We have amazing friends who are so fun to travel with. I can’t wait until our next destination.
