Hi, I'm Liz

I'm a midwestern girl who lives in Iowa with my amazing husband, Tim and our incredible son Theodore.  I love to cook, entertain family and friends, visit unknown travel destinations, and enjoy the occasional martini.

Teddy 9 Months

January 7, 2016

I can’t believe it.

Teddy is 9 months old.  I have no idea how time has flown by so quickly.

As we enter a new year, it seems appropriate that I reflect on one of 2015’s biggest blessings.

To our sweet son, Theodore James,

Your dad and I love you oh so much.  We seriously look at each other every night and try to comprehend how we could love you any more than the day before.

People ask us the biggest surprise of becoming a parent.  And I think that’s it.  I had no idea the amount of love I could carry for another person.  I love my friends.  I love my parents.  I LOVE your dad.  But I LOOOOVVVVVEEEE you.  So much.  I’m pretty sure I Beverly Goldberg love you.

Every day you grow.  Every day we find new things to discover and love about you.  I swear, the last couple of days I see a little boy bursting through your little baby body.

For example – you just want to go.  Anywhere.  Everywhere.

You can get to and from by crawling but you would prefer to run (if you could).  You love standing up and walking with the help from mom or dad.  We’ve slowly started baby proofing the house, but we have a long way to go in a short period of time – if we go by your timeline.

Everyone tells us you look like a Gerber Baby.  And if I’m honest, I would have to agree.  Baby, you are quite the charmer – always full of smiles and laughter.  You love to jibber jabber and have started some fun squeals that are always great to hear.

The best part of my day is coming up with new ways to make you smile.  Whether its the “faraway – up close” game, singing your “Teddy” theme song your dad made up, talking in funny voices or dancing around like no one’s watching – your laughter is my new favorite sound.

We’ve had some crazy nights – where we’re reminded we have no idea what we’re doing. Your dad and I normally just try to laugh through the hard parts and be thankful for having each other. For example, your first Christmas.  After a night of throwing up, 103 degree temperature, congestion and no sleep – we found ourselves in the ER Christmas morning. And although it wasn’t the best way to spend your first Christmas, you were a trooper through it all.  I’m so thankful for your calm temperament (most of the time), and your ability to see the positive, stay smiling, even when you’re not feeling well.  I hope you keep that trait throughout life because it’s a good one to have as you grow older.

You’ve made some great friends the last couple of months.  From Harper, to Liam and Smith, to Charlie, Abram, Boone and Sam and Eva and Kellen – Walt, and Grier, another Harper and Cullen, even the friends you have yet to meet, Thomas and Genevieve – we’re going to have fun seeing those friendships blossom over the years as you grow up together and even make new friends.  Your dad and I have been blessed with our friendships over the years.  I hope one day you can have what we have.  I know you will.  Just remember to smile and treat people with kindness.  You’re already off to a great start.

To say your curious would be an understatement.  Why is it that you always go for the sharpest object, or the one outlet we don’t have covered, or the shelf with the breakable martini glasses, and always, always the dirty shoe? And everything is always in the mouth.  I swear it’s your mission to get past us one of these days.  Each day your wonder for the world is growing and we LOVE watching it happen.  Keep growing.  Keep getting into trouble.  Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder.

You love your dad.  And I love watching you love your dad.  You know his voice and your face lights up when you hear him – even when it’s over the phone.  You save some of your biggest smiles for when he walks through the door and you love, love, love when he reads you stories.  He’s the best at playtime and you especially love your time in the mornings before mom gets up.  You really lucked out with having the BEST father.  I’m not just saying that – it’s true.  You already know that but you’ll agree with me even more as you grow older and form a strong father/son relationship.

As for me, well, I think you enjoy my dance moves.  You also love all of my impressions and story voices… But our cuddle time might be your favorite.  One of the best parts of my day is snuggling and singing to you before bed.  And I know it’s weird and you might hate it but I like to stare at you a lot.  Especially when you’re sleeping on your tummy and your butts up in the air.  You’re just so darn cute.

Baby – you are pretty awesome.  I feel like the luckiest person on the planet to be your mom.  Thanks for making this journey so fun.  I can’t wait to see what you’re up to next.

I love you.

XOXO,

Mom
